Mio Knight Rider Review:
The Mio Knight Rider to GPS navigation device from MIO is featuring turn-by-turn guidance from K.I.T.T. and synthesizer lights that accompany the voice directions. The Mio Knight Rider GPS features all of the things we’ve come to expect from Mio—a clean, touch-screen interface, turn-by-turn directions, pre-loaded maps of the United States or Canada, and over four million different points of interest. This K.I.T.T.-like GPS device features lights along the side of the screen which flash when voice prompts are given. In fact, all voice files were recorded by actor William Daniels who provided the voice of K.I.T.T. from the original Knight Rider show. The Mio Knight Rider includes a database of around 300 male and female names which can be programmed for the system’s opening greeting.
The Mio Knight Rider GPS puts you right where you want to be. I don’t on a daily basis rid the world of evil forces. As it turns out, some places I travel have some pretty nefarious types. The Mio Knight Rider gets me to a hotel, ATM about a 4-million points of interest. Mio partnered with Universal Studios, holder of the Knight Rider license to produce an authentic product. As in the show, K.I.T.T. greets you as soon as you power it up. The Mio Knight Rider GPS is loaded to the gills with extras and will sell for $269.
Mio’s Knight Rider display is a 4.3-inch 480 x 272 LCD anti-glare touchscreen. The menu is clearly laid out with options for an instant GPS fix, maps, POIs, turn-by-turn directions and more. The familiar voice of K.I.T.T. guides you between the highways and byways of your destination.
Mio collaborated with Navtones to include exclusive voice guidance and turn-by-turn directions featuring new recordings made by William Daniels as the voice of K.I.T.T. The device’s integrated randomized greetings and custom names will welcome you to your navigation experience. You can be Michael if you’re a purist, or choose from one of the list of 300 names. The Knight Rider GPS features an active LED voice synthesizer display that moves in sync with the voice, just as it did on K.I.T.T.’s dash, which provide a clear representation of all audio commands as they occur. The unit can even be programmed to advise you of speed limit infractions just in case you’re applying too much turbo boost.
The highly sensitive SiRFInstantFixIII GPS receiver provides a rapid time-to-first-fix positioning, is WAAS enabled, and can acquire a signal even in urban canyons and under dense foliage. With pre-loaded maps of the U.S. and Canada, the Knight Rider GPS is ready to operate in minutes with no computer set-up required. Containing over 4-million POIs such as restaurants, hotels, gas stations and more. The voice turn-by-turn direction is delivered in 16-languages. It is especially useful for me because I travel along the border towns of Texas. English is a second language for me and sometimes I switch over to Spanish. K.I.T.T. in Spanish is totally cool.
Keeping with Knight Rider theme, the lights featured on the GPS looks just like Michael Knight’s system. The LED display moves in sync with the same K.I.T.T. free-form equalizer effect. It is a visual kick to see the Knight Rider in operation. Whether I am going to my son’s soccer game or on a biz trip, Knight Rider makes the trip more interesting.

K.I.T.T. in my own car…..
Sorry, just had to pick myself back off the floor! This is going to be so cool. I already have a load of cool voices I downloaded from Navtones.com, but K.I.T.T., I’m in love. I will find it hard to give up my Mr. T and my wife’s favorite Kim Cattrall but K.I.T.T. is too good to turn down. Navtones are providing the voice for the Knight Rider GPS so you know it’s the real deal. Thanks for the review, I can’t wait to get mine!
